Man in 20s dies in West Derby road crash

A man in his 20s has died after an early-morning road crash in West Derby.

Emergency services were called to Princess Drive at around 1am on Saturday following a serious collision between a Ford Fiesta and a private hire taxi.

The passenger in the Fiesta, a local man, was confirmed deceased while a 19-year-old woman in the same car was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

A 25-year-old man from the private hire taxi was arrested at the scene but later taken to hospital for treatment.

Two men from the taxi, a Ford S-Max, were treated at the scene for slight injuries.

The next of kin of those involved are in the process of being informed and enquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances.

CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are continuing. The road has now been reopened and both vehicles recovered.

Roads Policing Sergeant Ged Farley said: “This is clearly a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life and others have been injured.

“Specialist officers will be supporting the victim’s family and all of those affected as we seek to discover exactly what happened.

“We know that people saw or heard this collision and at this early stage, we want to speak to all of them, including anyone who was passing by at the time or immediately before, and could have captured vital evidence on vehicle dashcam or home CCTV.”
