Out-of-favour Liverpool stopper will cost £15m

Liverpool have set a £15 million price tag on Simon Mignolet this summer.

Mignolet’s first-team prospects took a nosedive following the arrival of Alisson Becker and has made just two appearances in all competitions this season.

The Belgium international was the subject of interest from both Napoli and Fulham just 12 months ago but Anfield chiefs refused to sanction his sale.

According to the Daily Mail, several Premier League clubs including Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich City could be potential suitors for Mignolet.

But Liverpool will not allow the goalkeeper to leave unless it is for the right price and believe the eight-figure valuation reflects both is experience and standing.

Despite being marginalised at Anfield, Mignolet remains a staple of Roberto Martinez’s Belgium squad and remains Liverpool’s second-choice stopper.

Since arriving from Sunderland in 2013, the 31-year-old has made over 200 appearances for Liverpool and was a mainstay until the previous campaign.

Loris Karus’ emergence at the midway point of the 2017/18 campaign saw Mignolet restricted to an understudy role prior to Alisson’s switch from Roma.

Meanwhile Karius appears to have confirmed that his loan spell with Besiktas will continue for a second season despite a previous dispute over unpaid wages.

The German endured a difficult start to life with the Istanbul-based club as a series of high-profile errors drew the public ire of manager Senol Gunes.

But speaking after Saturday’s defeat to Trabzonspor, Karius admitted that he is content with life in Turkey and is set to fulfill the second half of the loan deal.

He said: “I think that if all parties are happy and satisfied, I will continue [here]. My contract with Besiktas continues.

“This is a team game, I must not forget this, I am disappointed.

“Maybe we could have got a point. We have another game and a game to win.”
