A man is in a critical condition after being hit by a police car in Maghull.
Officers were called to the A59 Northway, close to the Alt Park Hotel Pub at around 12.20am on Sunday to reports of a collison involving a pedestrian.
The man in his 30s has been taken to hospital, where his condition is described as critical. The police officer involved in the incident sustained no injuries.
Overnight road closures were in place on both sides of the carriageway, to Switch Island.
Merseyside Police have referred the incident to watchdog IOPC for further investigation.
