Yobs have trashed the famous Grand National racecourse just days before the 2019 festival opens on Thursday.
Vandals used a vehicle to smash through a security gate and drive on to the course at around 06.45 am this morning.
It is understood that the car drove on to the course and caused damaged to the white perimeter fences that line the course.
A spokesperson for Aintree Racecourse has insisted that the damage will not effect the planned event. Speaking of the incident they said “we are working closely with the police on this matter.
This certainly won’t affect a fantastic three days in Liverpool’s sporting and social calendar”.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said “we are appealing for information following an incident of criminal damage at Aintree Racecourse reported this morning, Saturday 30 March”
“At 6.45am, it was reported that damage had been found to a perimeter gate and on the course. It is not believed that anything was stolen and no injuries were caused”
“It is initially believed that the damage was caused by a car driven onto the site. Extensive CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing, working closely alongside the course owners”
