A man who mowed down revellers in Liverpool city centre has been jailed.
Callum Rose was found guilty of failing to stop at the scene after two people were hit by a car on Slater Street during the early hours of Christmas Eve last year.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that the Ford Kuga car which Rose was driving was discovered on Aigburth Road shortly after the incident had occurred.
The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, as well as breaching a previously suspended sentence.
In addition to receiving a four-and-a-half year sentence on Friday, he was also disqualified for driving for seven years and one month.
Detective Inspector Paul Speight said: “This was a particularly horrific incident that was captured on CCTV showing the car colliding with the pedestrians.
“Luckily, both men were treated by paramedics at the scene and are making progress in their recovery but I am under no illusion that this could have been so much worse.
“Mr Rose put himself and all those around him in danger and the fact that he left the scene when it was obvious that someone was seriously injured shows his complete lack of empathy and regard for the safety of others.
“Driving dangerously can have serious and fatal consequences and I hope this shows others that they will be put before the courts and prosecuted it they are found guilty of a similar offence.
“I’d like to thank the public for their help and coming forward to share information as well as our first response officers and other emergency services who dealt with the aftermath of the incident and whose investigative tactics have led to today’s outcome.”
