Liverpool’s Champions League run contributed over half-a-billion to the UK economy.
Last season’s route to the final saw the Anfield club generate £575 million with £497m going back into the local Liverpool City Region.
Findings from Deloitte’s Sports Business Group also revealed that upwards of 1.5 million football fans visited the Reds’ stadium during the 2017/18 campaign.
Half of that figure hailed from outside of Merseyside with Liverpool calculating that around 140,000 of that overall number had arrived from overseas.
The revenue generated by Jurgen Klopp’s side last season represented four per cent of the City Region’s GVA (gross value added).
Liverpool’s CEO told city business leaders on Thursday that the figures make a compelling case for further investment in the Merseyside economy.
He said: “It is clear that many of our matchday visitors came to Liverpool for the football but return for the city itself, so there is longevity and a continuous cycle to the impact we’re creating.”
Deloitte’s study comes after Liverpool posted record pre-tax provits of £125m for the previous financial year with an increased turnover of £455m.
