Guests at The Masonic apartments in Bold Street have said that there was blood on the walls after a teenager was attacked in the apartment block this morning.
Police were called the the popular apartment blocks at around 7.25 am to reports a 19-year-old man had his ear cut open with a piece of glass.
He was taken to hospital where he received stitches to his left ear.
Part of Bold Street was closed whilst police undertook a forensic investigation of the scene.
People staying in the apartments stated that that they heard crashing noises, shouting and found blood smeared on internal doors and on a wall near the front door.
Merseyside Police said that witnesses are being spoken to and they are looking for CCTV evidence.
Inspector Damien Bates said: “This was a nasty assault with the victim receiving an injury to his ear.
“We are constantly working alongside our partners and we will continue to educate, enforce and act on any information given to us, to make the streets safer.
I appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to the incident to contact police so we can find the person responsible and bring them to justice.”
