A man killed in a police car crash on Christmas Day had enjoyed the ‘best day ever’ prior to his death.
Tony Carroll was knocked down in Scotland Road by a patrol car responding to an emergency call at around 6:50pm on Tuesday and was later pronouced dead.
Merseyside Police have referred the fatal road collision to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) watchdog in the aftermath of the incident.
The 70-year-old’s family paid tribute to ‘a much-loved brother and uncle’.
“He was always the life and soul of the party, and he lived life the way he wanted to,” read a statement.
“Tony was much loved by all who knew him for his kindness and generosity in the local community.
As a very close knit family we spent Christmas Day together and as he left told us all that he had had the best day ever.
“This tragedy has devastated all our family and Tony will be remembered in our hearts forever.
The family request that the media respect our wishes for privacy at this difficult time.”
