Jurgen Klopp has warned Liverpool of a need to keep their title rivals at bay.
Last weekend saw the Reds consolidate their lead in the Premier League table to four points with a win over Wolves while Manchester City lost to Crystal Palace.
A four-point gap has opened up between the current champions-elect and Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of the Christmas period’s round of fixtures.
But Klopp is wary of the threat that both City and fellow challengers Tottenham pose as Liverpool aim to end a domestic drought which dates back to 1990.
He said: “I really expect that we do as much as possible to win games. I knew about the potential of my team but I didn’t know how it would all work together.
“You don’t think about December when you start in June, but of course being unbeaten in the league in December is not something I have had too often.
“Did I expect that? Not really. Did I think about any defeat when I started in June? Not one.
“We did really well so far and we have to do even better from now on, because you can see all the other teams are doing really well.
“That’s the challenge for us, to be focused and as successful as possible. In this moment it looks quite positive, but only in this moment.
“We have to make sure it stays like this.”
