Everton plot 62,000 capacity in new stadium plans

Everton have revealed their plans to make their new stadium a 52,000 capacity.

A purpose-built venue at the Bramley-Moore Dock is expected to be completed in time for the Blues’ to begin the 2022/23 campaign at their new home.

Designs of the stadium in the north Liverpool docks are yet to be released with the club’s planning application submission currently deferred until late 2019.

But Goodison Park officials have unveiled their intentions following a series of public consultations held across the Liverpool City Region that ended last month.

With 32,000 season ticket holders and an additional 10,000 waiting list, Everton forecast an initial capacity of 52,000 to meet both current and future demands.

Future expansion plans could see the capacity increased to 62,000 in the long-term which would make it the third-largest stadium in the Premier League.

Everton have also made provisions for rail seating to be implemented in two stands should the legislation surrounding safe standing in English football change.

Colin Chong, the club’s stadium development director, said: “At this stage, it is important to stress that this is our proposed capacity and it is what we are currently working towards.

“The final capacity and design will be subject to further engagement and consultation.

“We believe that our approach is the right one because it is commercially and financially sustainable and will mean that, in the long term, we will be able to increase the capacity should there be a demand and requirement to do so.”

“At this stage it is not possible to say if and when any capacity expansion to an absolute maximum of 62,000 would take place,” he added.

“That would also be subject to further design work, fan and community consultation and planning approval.”
