Dad to fight fatal Crosby crash charge ruling

A dad from Liverpool, whose wife died in a crash in Crosby, is going to fight the decision to not charge anyone in connection to his wife’s death.

Lauren Johnson, who was 33 years old at the time of the crash, was killed in October 2016.

The CPS has indicated that the driver lost control due to a “condition” and that it was not in the public interest to charge him.

Mrs Johnson was survived by her two children, who were aged two and 8 months at the time she was killed by a Toyota Auris on College Road.

David Johnson is now pushing for a judicial review of the decision not to charge the man who caused the death of his wife.

In the report from the CPS there are no details of the condition that caused the driver to lose control. Mr Johnson wants to see the report and try to find more information surrounding the “condition” in an attempt to explain more to his young children.

David Johnson launched a crowd funding page and so far has reached £24,000 of the £30,000 cost to launch a judicial review.

A spokesperson for the CPS for Merseyside and Cheshire said the decision had been explained to the Johnson family in a letter and a meeting.

“Witnesses and medical evidence indicated that the driver was not able to exercise active control of the car at the time of the collision,” he said.

“We ultimately concluded that there could not be a prosecution as it would not be in the public interest due to the driver’s condition.”
