Allerton Priory housing plans set to be approved

Redrow will likely see their controversial plans for Allerton Priory approved next week.

The overturning of the appeal will now see 100 new homes built on the land. A site visit my planning officers will go ahead in order to discuss and approved “reserved matters”.

If the new plans are approved there will be three, four and five bedroom houses built on the land at Allerton Priory. The land has previously been described as “possibly the most beautiful green space in Liverpool”.

The controversial plans were originally rejected by the council however the site was granted outline planning permission earlier this year.

Redrow are now seeking approval for the appearance, landscape, scale and layout of the development. The outline planning permission approved up to 160 homes however the current plans will see 100 new homes built on the 33 acre piece of land.

A report states that the houses will be built so as not to obstruct the views of nearby properties including Allerton Priory Home Farm.

The report also adds that extensive areas of public open space which will act as large landscape buffers between each of the three development areas.

The case officer has suggested that the plans be approved following a site meeting next Tuesday. Liverpool City Council’s head of planning believes that the impact of residents nearby will be “minimal”.

The plans were originally blocked by residents over concerns for wildlife welfare including that of bats, barn owls and hedgehogs.  Residents also complained about the loss of green space.
