Salah wins FIFA’s Puskas award for derby goal

Mohamed Salah has scooped the Puskas award for Goal of the Year.

Salah beat off competition from the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the battle for the accolade at FIFA’s The Best awards in London.

The Egyptian earned the prestigious Puskas gong for opening the scoring in Liverpool’s Merseyside derby draw with Everton with a stunning curled effort.

Although Jurgen Klopp’s side were ultimately pegged back in the December 10 fixture, Salah’s strike was shortlisted as one of 10 goals for the award.

It was chosen ahead of Bale’s spectacular overhead kick against the Reds in a Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid at the end of last season.

Salah, who scored 44 times in his debut campaign at Anfield, said: “I am very happy, very proud.

“Thanks to everyone who voted for me.

“I am looking forward to another award tonight!”

The 26-year-old went on to finish third behind Ronaldo and winner Luka Modic for FIFA’s Player of the Year.
