Anderlecht have blamed Lazar Markovic for his collapsed deadline day move.
Markovic was set to end a four-year stay at Liverpool by joining the Belgian First Division A outfit in a permanent deal worth £2.9 million last Friday.
But the transfer failed to materialise before the European transfer deadline, meaning the Serbian winger will remain at Anfield for the foreseeable future.
Anderlecht boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck has hit out at Markovic, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the club, as the cause of the collapse.
He said: “Our president and sports director did everything to convince Markovic.
“They waited until Liverpool lowered the price. They almost did a crazy effort for the player, but it wasn’t enough.
“It’s his own fault that the deal fell through.”.
Markovic’s current Liverpool contract is set to expire at the end of this season.
The 24-year-old made the last of 34 appearances for the Reds in May 2015 before loan spells with Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull City and Anderlecht.
