Liverpool will not allow Simon Mignolet to leave before FIFA’s transfer deadline.
Mignolet has made no secret of a desire to pursue first-team football elsewhere after he was displaced as the Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper.
Loris Karius initially took the Belgium international’s place last season before summer signing Alisson Becker usurped the current Besiktas loanee.
“I find it bizarre that Karius was loaned while I also had options to be loaned, but for some reason that was not possible,” Mignolet told Het Laaste Nieuws.
“The transfer of Karius doesn’t change anything for me. I have always been clear: I want to play.
“Being No.2 or No.3 makes little difference. Playing minutes is the most important thing. Nobody has said anything to me after the departure of Loris.
“So I don’t know what my future at Liverpool is. We will see what happens this week.”
Although the Premier League window closed earlier this month, European clubs are still able to make signings up until Friday’s cut-off date.
But the Anfield hierarchy are unwilling to sanction Mignolet’s departure in the wake of Karius sealing a two-season loan move to the Istanbul-based outfit.
Only a permanent sale would alter Liverpool’s stance despite Napoli previously failing to meet their valuation while the 30-year-old could not agree terms with Fulham.
Should Mignolet end his five-year spell, Jurgen Klopp would only have teenagers Caoimhin Kelleher and Kamil Grabara as Alisson’s understudies.
This summer Liverpool sold Danny Ward, formerly third choice behind Mignolet and Karius, to Leicester City in a deal worth an initial £12.5 million.
Adam Bogdan, meanwhile, was allowed to see out the final year of his current deal at Hibernian as part of a season-long loan arrangement.
