Escaped prisoner Shaun Walmsley has been captured after 18 months on the run.
Walmsley fled officers during a visit to Aintree Hospital on February 21 last year while serving a life sentence for the 2014 killing of Anthony Duffy.
Two armed men helped the now 29-year-old, who was serving a minimum 30-year tariff, escape by threatening prison guards with a knife and a gun.
But a joint operation between Merseyside Police and West Yorkshire Police saw Walmsley, one of the UK’s most wanted men, finally arrested in Leeds.
He was detained when armed officers stopped a car in the city’s Harehills district on Tuesday.
The former Walton resident has been charged with escape from lawful custody and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
