Pepijn Lijnders has rejoined Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool backroom staff.
Lijnders left Anfield in January to pursue a management role with NEC Nijmegen but left after they failed to secure promotion to the Eredivisie.
The 35-year-old will take up a senior role within the Reds’ first-team coaching setup. Klopp had admitted to being ‘gutted’ by his surprise return to Holland.
Anfield officials insist that Lijnders’ return will have no bearing on the uncertainty over the future of Klopp’s long-standing assistant Zeljko Buvac.
Buvac has not been involved in Liverpool’s coaching setup since a goalless draw with Stoke City in late April but is still retained as an official employee.
In addition to Lijnders, Klopp drafted in Philipp Jacobsen as his new medical rehabilitation and performance manager on Wednesday.
The German has previously worked with Panathinaikos, the Qatari national team and Portsmouth alongside a spell at specialist rehabilitation clinic Aspetar.
Liverpool also announced their plans for a series of UK pre-season friendlies this summer, beginning with a trip to Chester FC on Saturday, July 7.
A third consecutive summer visit to Tranmere Rovers will take place four days later before their first meeting with Bury in over half a century on July 14.
Klopp’s side will round off their domestic preparations against Blackburn Rovers on July 19 before travelling to the International Champions Cup.
