Hospital released M53 victim hours before fall

A Merseyside hospital released a woman just hours after she fell to her death on a motorway bridge.

Claire Prince had been taken to Arrowe Park by police for a mental health assessment after she was spotted on a bridge over the M53 on Monday.

But the 32-year-old was discharged by the staff at the hospital just hours before she died after falling from the bridge between Bebington and Eastham.

Before her death in the early hours of Tuesday, Ms Prince wrote a distressing final status on Facebook with the words ‘I WILL go off this bridge. See ya.’

Bosses at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, who operate Arrowe Park, have vowed to conduct a thorough review into the incident which led to her death.

A spokesman said: “Our thoughts and sympathy are with this person’s family and loved ones following this very tragic incident.

“Although we are unable to go into specific detail about the circumstances for reasons of patient confidentiality, we can assure that a formal review will be undertaken jointly with all partner agencies involved in this patient’s care.”
