Almost 1,000 Liverpool fans have seen their flights to the Champions League final cancelled.
Three chartered flights heading to Kiev for Saturday’s showpiece event between the Reds and Real Madrid were all postponed on Thursday.
Worldchoice Sports, who offered the route to the Ukraine, claim that they were unable to source a landing spot at the nearby Boryspil airport.
“We have exhausted all avenues to try and get landing slots,” the Widnes-based tour operator said in a statement.
“We have had them from Liverpool airport and Manchester airport and we have applied for slots in the correct manner and timeframe with the authorities.
“To reiterate this problem IS with Kiev.”
Liverpool are expected to take over 20,000 supporters to Kiev as they prepare to take on the reigning European champions at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium.
Peter Moore, the club’s CEO, attempted to reassure fans left stranded by the Worldchoice Sports cancellation that they were exploring all available options.
“We have been working with Kiev Airport, Liverpool Airport, Liverpool City Council, UEFA, World Choice and the aircraft broker over the past 48 hours to find a solution to this issue,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Work is ongoing, and we are optimistic that together will obtain a favourable resolution.”
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson claimed on Thursday eveing that he had managed to source two landing spots with the help of his Kiev counterpart.
Former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko is currently the mayor of the Ukrainian capital.
