Liverpool FC’s Mamadou Sakho faces ban after accepting UEFA drugs test

Liverpool defender, Mamadou Sakho is set to face a UEFA charge after accepting the results of a positive drugs test.

The France International has not requested for the B sample he gave following Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United last month.

Instead it is likely that Sakho will aim for a reduced ban on the grounds of “mitigating circumstances”.

Sakho found out on Friday that he had tested positive for the use of a “fat burner” following the last 16 leg tie which took place on March 17.

UEFA’s investigation is ongoing and it is likely that a doping charge will now be issued as Sakho has not requested a second test.

Liverpool FC have so far remained quiet on the issue but the centre-back has been removed from selection and will not travel to Spain today ahead of the semi-final first leg with Villarreal.

The £18 million defender could potentially be banned for up to two years but with mitigation that could be reduced to six months.
