Mohamed Salah claims Roma’s players wanted to avoid Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.
Friday’s draw paired Jurgen Klopp’s side with the Serie A giants as Salah prepares to make an emotional first return to his former club.
The Egypt international has enjoyed a blistering debut season at Anfield since leaving the Stadio Olimpico in a £36.9 million deal last summer.
But speaking ahead of the draw, Salah revealed that his former teammates had hoped to avoid the Reds in the last four of Europe’s elite club competition.
“They’ve all said, ‘We don’t want to play against Liverpool’,” he told CNN.
“It would be nice to go back to Rome, it’s my old club. I love the fans there and they love me too.
“I still talk to most of the players there. We were very close to each other and we are good friends. Of course, I have happy memories.
“We played together for two years and were fighting together in all the games. We had a good time in the dressing room.”
