Review: LANY at the Liverpool Echo Arena

Tonight LANY took to the stage as the first band in a night of big hitters including John Newman and Ellie Goulding.

This three piece from California had just 25 minutes to introduce themselves to the Liverpool audience – and that they did.

They themselves admitted that they were relatively unknown to the Liverpool audience but that hasn’t stopped them from them placing themselves firmly on the radar of the early crowds.

Their laid back vibe was welcomed. I can imagine relaxing on a beach in the summer listening to the sounds of LANY.

They came to the stage with his praise from the likes of Zane Lowe and Sam Smith and with good reason.

They have somewhat of a unique sound, somewhere between rock and pop. They have a sort of five seconds of summer feel to them, but perhaps slightly edgier.

Their interaction with the audience was interesting – they were really familiar with the audience which is great and totally added to the performance.

They had a great energy on stage – which I imagine would have been relatively difficult given at the time of performance the arena was around 75% empty. They overcame this like professionals and the audience felt their energy.

I think the beauty of LANY is that they will appeal to a large audience. Their sound is universal, as is their appeal which will surely see them go far. Young girls will love them and their parents will equally appreciate their sound.

Another great this is that these guys feel totally organic and not like they’ve been churned out of the boy-band mould  that some other bands have.

In the parting speech they vowed to be back in an arena soon – I can’t help but agree. Perhaps in a year or two they will indeed be the headliners.
