Bill Kenwright aids Alfie Evans high court appeal

Everton FC boss have aided the family of Alfie Evans after making a donation that will allow them to appeal the High Court decision to remove life support.

Supporters of the family had taken to social media to urge people to donate in order to raise £10,000 in order to fund a legal appeal.

Within just a few hours they reached the target after Everton chairman Bill Kenwright made an undisclosed donation.

Alfie’s auntie Sarah wrote: “Alfie’s Army we got over our target I can refund those who need it anyone who doesn’t I will be getting it sent to the JustGiving you are all amazing xxxx.”

The appeal comes after a high court judge ruled that life support should be withdrawn from the youngster.

Mr Justice Hayden ruled: “It was entirely right that every reasonable option should be explored for Alfie. I am now confident that this has occurred.

“The continued provision of ventilation, in circumstances which I am persuaded are futile, now compromises Alfie’s future dignity and fails to respect his autonomy.”

“I am satisfied that continued ventilatory support is no longer in Alfie’s best interest. This decision I appreciate will be devastating news to Alfie’s parents and family.”
