Barry Bennell, a convicted paedophile, has been found guilty of further offences today at Liverpool Crown Court.
Bennell was today found guilty of five indecent assault charges and two counts of rape with further verdicts expected this afternoon.
The court heard how Bennell exploited his position as a football coach in order to become a “child molester on an industrial scale”.
Bennell was compared to the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang during his trial where it was detailed that he would invite boys to his home where he had arcade games, pool tables and exotic pets.
During closing speeches the prosecution stated that Bennell had also groomed the parents of complainants so that he could carry on the abuse and even went on to marry this sister of Andy Woodward, who he has admitted to abusing.
Bennell appeared in court via video link due to being too unwell to attend court, denied 48 counts of historic sex abuse between 1979 and 1990 during his time as a coach at Crewe Alexandra.
11 complainants and witnesses gave evidence about the abuse in court. One of the witnesses today stated that he believed Bennell had abused him on around 100 occasions. He was forced to perform oral sex and had been raped seven to ten times.
Jurors heard that Bennell is a convicted sex offender who has spent time in prison in both the UK and the United States for his crimes.
