Liverpool have cooled their interest in Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar.
Groundwork on a potential move for Lemar began in the previous summer transfer window but Arsenal’s late interest saw the Reds fail to land their target.
The Anfield hierarchy was expected to step up that pursuit of the France international following Philippe Coutinho’s Anfield departure last month.
But the Liverpool Echo claim that they have curbed their attention of Lemar, with Monaco unwilling to lower their previous £90 million valuation of the player.
Sporting director Michael Edwards and recruitment chiefs Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter are understood to share Jurgen Klopp’s belief the fee would be better invested elsewhere.
The collective are reportedly convinced that other players capable of filling the number 10 role vacated by Coutinho will become available this summer.
One such option could be Germany international Max Meyer, whose contract with Schalke expires in the summer and is said to be of interest to Liverpool.
