A member of staff at Walton Prison has been arrested.
Titan regional organised crime unit today confirmed that a contractor working at HMP Liverpool was arrested at the prison this morning (Wednesday, 7 February 2018).
The 31-year-old woman from Norris Green was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.
She has been taken to a police station in Merseyside for questioning.
The arrest forms part of Operation Earthly, a joint investigation between Titan’s Prison investigation unit and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS).
A vehicle and a house in the Norris Green area have been searched following the arrest.
DCI Chris Mossop, Head of Titan’s Regional Intelligence Unit, said: “This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation conducted by the Titan Prison Investigation Unit (PIU), set up with the support of HMPPS, to identify those members of prison staff in the North West either directly or indirectly employed by the prison service who are believed to be corrupt.
“PIU staff will take positive action against any person believed to be involved in corrupt activity that affects the prison estates across the region. This is yet another positive example of the work undertaken by the Prison Service and Titan in reducing the harm contraband is having within prisons.
“We would like to make it clear to the small but determined number of prison staff who are involved in corruption that we will look at every opportunity available to us and the Prison Service to disrupt and arrest those involved.”
