Swansea City are in pole position to land Liverpool misfit Lazar Markovic.
The Serbia international remains far down the pecking order at Anfield, having failed to prove his worth to Jurgen Klopp.
He is yet to feature under the German and last made an appearance for the Reds back in 2015, spending the last two years on various loan deals.
Spartak Moscow had been thought to be keen on Markovic’s signature but that battle has since been whittled down to just the Swans and Wolfsburg.
Both clubs contacted Liverpool about the 23-year-old’s availability but the Premier League outfit appear the favourites to seal a loan deal for him.
Anfield officials would prefer that Markovic leave on a permanent deal but are willing to take a temporary release should it prove financially agreeable.
However the final decision is dependent on Swansea, who had assessed a move for Leicester forward Andy King as an alternative to the winger.
Markovic last featured for Liverpool as a second-half substitute in their 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers back in May 2015.
