Strikes at Cammell Laird as seeming increasingly likely after workers rejected the latest pay offer put forward by the shipbuilders.
No further talks between top bosses and union leaders have been scheduled meaning that the vote will lead to planned strike action going ahead tomorrow and on Monday.
Members of GMB and Unite voted last week to undertake strike action after months of talks between the two sides failed.
Workers wanted to secure a pay rise at above standard inflation and also to improve working conditions. This related to sick pay and a reduction in working hours.
The Birkenhead shipyard employs around 1200 members of staff.
