Jordi Mestre claims Liverpool lowering their asking price for Philippe Coutinho.
Coutinho was formally unveiled as Barcelona’s first signing of the January transfer window on Monday, officially ending their 14-month courtship of him.
The Reds brokered a deal worth up to £142 million for the playmaker, which would make him the second most-expensive player in football history.
Barca have paid a fee in the region of £105m up-front with the rest of the figure made up by performance-related clauses across Coutinho’s Nou Camp career.
But Mestre, the Catalans’ sporting director, revealed that Anfield officials reduced their valuation for the want-away Brazilian from last summer’s original figure.
He said: “The interest of the club has always been to sign Coutinho.
“The difference with the summer is that there has been a big reduction in the price.
“By desire of Liverpool, we cannot give the figures, but there has been a very important reduction.
“If I said something, it would be to break the pact we have with Liverpool.
“It’s bad for me but we cannot give any figures.”
