Liverpool hope to bring Naby Keita’s arrival from RB Leipzig forward this month.
A £57 million deal for Keita was agreed with the Bundesliga outfit in the previous transfer window with a confirmation date currently set for July 1.
The Guinea midfielder has regularly been tipped to make the switch to Anfield ahead of schedule despite Leipzig continually rejecting the possibility.
But Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona has prompted the Reds to consider a fresh approach to try and convince the Red Bull-owned club to part with Keita early.
Liverpool would be willing to pay an additional premium to Leipzig in order to secure the 22-year-old’s services, a full six months before his scheduled arrival.
However the German side are currently refusing to bend to the proposal as they are keen to utilise Keita in their efforts to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Keita has scored five times in 20 appearances for Leipzig this term but was beset by early disciplinary issues with a combined three red cards for club and country.
Jurgen Klopp is also preparing to fill the void left by Coutinho’s £142m switch to Barcelona with a renewed approach for versatile Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar.
Coutinho will finalise his departure to the Catalans on Monday, when he is expected to be officially unveiled in the Nou Camp at around midday.
