Barcelona are hopeful of landing Philippe Coutinho with a £140 million bid.
Liverpool previously rejected three offers from the Catalans for the playmaker last summer but are now preparing to step up their pursuit this month.
The Anfield hierarchy have softened their stance since the previous transfer window and are understood to be receptive to deals in the region of £130m.
Although Barca offered the Reds a deal worth £114m last August, it was heavily structured towards performance-related bonuses rather than an up-front fee.
Coutinho, who will miss Friday’s FA Cup tie with Everton due to a thigh injury, is understood to still remain keen on securing a move to the Nou Camp.
An advert carried on the website of Barca’s kit supplier Nike claimed that Coutinho had already sealed a move to the La Liga champions-elect.
Jurgen Klopp maintains a non-commital stance on the Brazil international’s future but would be given the final say on his sale by owners Fenway Sports Group.
He said: “There is no moment in January when I will talk about this, that’s how it is.
“If anything happens to any player, Phil or whoever, and if something happens, we can talk about it but not before. The summer was a different situation.
“Now it is like it is … still rumours, Nike, other people. In the moment there is something to say I will say it. Before that I am not part of the discussions.
“Really, my first job is to prepare the healthy fit players for the next game. That is my first job.
“I am not the chancellor of Liverpool FC and have to talk about all the other things before saying: ‘By the way, can we play football as well?’
“We play football. If nothing happens I will not talk about this until 31 January and then it might not be interesting any more.”
