A man has died after a crash in Old Swan in the early hours of Christmas Day.
The incident took place at the junction of Prescot Road and Bell Street at 4.35am on Monday when a BMW collided with a bus stop following a short police chase.
Officers have confirmed that the the front seat passenger of the car, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he has since passed away.
Work is ongoing to confirm the identity of the male and inform his next of kin while the male driver of the car was detained at the scene.
Merseyside Police immediately referred the incident to police watchdog the IPCC.
Prescot Road is currently closed between the junctions of Green Lane and St Oswalds Street to allow an investigation to be carried out and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.
