Merseyside Police have sent officers to the British Virgin Islands to help those affected by Hurricanes. Officers arrived safely and have successfully delivered the donations from the ‘Cycles 4 the Caribbean’ initiative and Operation Rudolph.
The officers, along with two members of disaster charity Team Rubicon UK arrived on Friday, 15 December, ahead of the 20 foot container of bikes and shoe boxes which arrived three days later.
With the help of the Executive Director of the Youth Empowerment Programme on the British Virgin Islands, Stacey Mather, the container was opened and the donations were distributed across the Islands over the course of three days, bringing great joy to those whose lives have been affected by disaster.
Constable Dan Holdsworth, who helped organise the Merseyside collection for the relief effort said: “It’s been a great experience to watch the devastation caused by the hurricanes on the news, pray and ask what I can do to help. I believe the answer in my case was definitely ‘Cycles 4 the Caribbean’ and I’m so pleased to finally see it come to life.
“For me, it’s about giving out of what you have got, however little that may be and that is what we have witnessed. Many people giving a bit of what they can, amounts to a great result.
“Because of how many people have used their power and kindness to give, a big difference has been made to people here in the British Virgin Islands, and will continue to do so.”
