Klopp to block Liverpool forward’s January exit

Liverpool will not allow Daniel Sturridge to leave in the January transfer window.

Sturridge is keen to improve his playing time in efforts to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Roberto Firmino is currently ahead of the striker in the Reds’ pecking order, prompting speculation that the 28-year-old may consider a seek a move.

Ex-Anfield boss Rafael Benitez is said to be keen on linking up with Sturridge again after they briefly worked together during the Spaniard’s time at Chelsea.

La Liga outfits Valencia and Real Betis are both said to be monitoring his situation but Jurgen Klopp is reportedly set to rebuff all advances.

According to the Daily Mail, the Liverpool manager will refuse to sanction any move for Sturridge – either permanent or loan – in next month’s market.

Klopp is understood to still rate the want-away player highly and will continue to use him in a back up role regardless of his desire for more regular playing time.

However Liverpool may be willing to listen to offers for Sturridge in the summer, when his current contract is set to tick down into its final 12 months.
