Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Everton’s penalty in the Merseyside derby should not have been given.
The Reds looked on course for a fourth straight victory against their local rivals courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s superb opener in the first half.
However, their inability to build on that lead returned to haunt them when Dejan Lovren sent Dominic Calvert-Lewin to ground with a challenge.
Wayne Rooney stepped up and duly converted from the spot to earn his side a point, leaving Klopp frustrated at the decision by referee Craig Pawson.
“I don’t think it was a penalty but obviously,” he said.
“It’s like it is we have to take it. Obviously, you all think it’s a penalty but then all the other challenges in midfield, Williams on Dominic Solanke should be a free kick.
“If you watch it again, in the last moment Calvert-Lewin makes a step in front of Dejan Lovren but he doesn’t push him or anything it’s just body contact.
“This is how it was in midfield but there was no free-kick there.
“We have to take that, we didn’t get a red card at Stoke when we should have and today it’s a penalty (against us) that wasn’t a penalty.”
