Spartak Moscow player Leonid Mironov has been charged with racially abusing Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster.
Anfield officials submitted a report to UEFA after the incident in the Youth League match between the two sides at Prenton Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Brewster had to be restrained by his Reds teammates and the club’s coaching staff at the final whistle of their 2-0 win over the flashpoint.
Anti-racism body Kick It Out condemned European football’s governing body and demanded a ‘swift investigation’ into the alleged incident of racist abuse.
UEFA responded to Liverpool’s report on Thursday, confirming that disciplinary action had been brought against Mironov, who captains Spartak’s U19 team.
“Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Youth League group stage match between Liverpool FC Youth and FC Spartak Moskva Youth (2-0), played on December 6 in England,” read a statement.
“Charges against FC Spartak Moskva: Racist behaviour – player Leonid Mironov – Article 14 of the Disciplinary Regulations.”
Liverpool forward Bobby Adekanye was also racially abused by home fans in Moscow during September’s corresponding fixture with Spartak’s under-19 side.
UEFA responded to the club’s complaint by ordering that the Russian outfit partially closed their academy stadium for their next home fixture.
