Sam Allardyce is pleased with the resilience Everton showed on his managerial bow.
The 63-year-old enjoyed a winning start to life as Blues boss courtesy of a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park, courtesy of goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
That result was Everton’s second successive win following the 4-0 victory over West Ham in midweek.
It also means they have now kept two clean sheets inside a week after failing to keep one in the league since the opening day win over Stoke City.
And Allardyce was pleased once more by the resilience his defence is showing, picking out youngsters Jonjoe Kenny and Mason Holgate for praise in particular.
He said: “Our resilience out of possession is looking very good to me.
“Our possession, particularly in the first half was a surprise, I thought we were going to be better than that, particularly after Wednesday night.
“That didn’t happen today in the first half but in the second half we got what we wanted.
“Defensively, as like Wednesday night (against West Ham), Huddersfield barely had a shot on target.
“While they had a lot of possession, our defensive was unit was exceptionally good.
“Young players like (Mason) Holgate and (Jonjoe) Kenny, for me look like outstanding young talents.”
