Bus drivers defer planned Derby Day strikes

A strike that would have left football fans without transport on Merseyside Derby Day has been cancelled.

Arriva announced that there had been contact from the GMB union that confirmed that they are altering their planned strike action back to the original planned date.

Phil Stone, Regional Managing Director Arriva North West commented: “Today’s correspondence from the GMB Union confirms they were planning to take strike action on the day of the Merseyside Derby, December 10. We note they say they have now decided to return to their original date of December 13.

We are pleased for our staff and passengers to now have clarity over the intended strike days.

However, in the run-up to one of the busiest times of the year, it is essential that the dispute is resolved through mediated talks and not strike action, so that staff and passengers can resume a normal service before Christmas. Arriva North West firmly believes that a fair and competitive pay rise has been offered, and once again would like to strongly suggest that ACAS act as a mediator going forwards.”

Planned strike action for December will go ahead on 4th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 22nd & 23rd December 2017.
