Two men jailed for firearms offences

Merseyside Police have welcomed the sentencing of two men for possession of firearms and ammunition at Liverpool Crown Court, yesterday, Tuesday 24 October.

46-year-old Barry Dermot from Halewood was sentenced to six years two months in prison for possession of a firearm, ammunition and allowing premises to be used for the production of Class A drugs, following an early guilty plea.

24-year-old Thomas Rowan from  Speke was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for possession of a firearm.

On Saturday, 5 March 2016, officers attended the report of a domestic disturbance at an address in The Avenue, Halewood. A Smith and Wesson revolver, ammunition and drugs were recovered from the address. Dermot was arrested and Rowan was later arrested following forensic enquiries.

A 31-year-old woman from Halewood was also arrested but no further action was taken.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Tivendale said: “Today’s sentencing shows that we will be relentless in pursuing criminals who are intent on storing dangerous weapons in Merseyside, wherever they hide.

“We will not tolerate criminals who use guns to create fear and intimidation on Merseyside and we are also determined to crack down on the people who help them by storing and looking after illegal weapons.”
