Ronald Koeman has expressed his disappointment following his departure from Everton.
The Dutchman was sacked on Monday after just 16 months in charge at Goodison Park.
Despite leading the Blues to seventh place and into the Europa League last season, a run of just three wins in all competitions this season had seen pressure mounting.
Sunday’s 5-2 defeat to Arsenal, which saw Everton slide into the relegation zone, led Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright to believe a change was needed.
Koeman, though, was keen to praise both of his former bosses, as well as the players and staff in a statement released early on Tuesday.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff for all of their work and commitment during my 16 months as Everton manager,” he said.
“I would like to thank Bill Kenwright, Farhad Moshiri and the Everton Board for the opportunity to have managed a great club, and to the fans as well for their passionate support for the club.
“Naturally I am disappointed at this moment, but I wish the team good luck in the future.”
The hunt for Koeman’s replacement is now on, with under-23 boss David Unsworth placed in temporary charge, commencing with the Carabao Cup trip to Chelsea on Wednesday.
