Everton fan banned from games after Lyon brawl

Everton have banned a supporter involved in fracas during their defeat to Lyon.

Television pictures showed a number of fans appearing to take aim at opposing players in the brawl which took place in the 64th minute of the Europa League tie.

One man carrying a young child in his arms was shown moving down the stand in attempts to hit out at Lyon players after Ashley Williams’ push on Anthony Lopes.

The Blues confirmed on Friday that they have identified one of the people involved in the ugly scenes in front of the Gwladys Street stand.

A club statement read: “Club officials have reviewed the footage of an incident that occurred in the 64th minute of the game against Olympique Lyonnaise where supports towards the front of the Lower Gwladys Street End became involved in a confrontation between players.

“We have identified one individual who action will now be taken against, this will include a ban from attending future Everton fixtures and the club registering a formal complaint with Merseyside Police”.

Merseyside Police confirmed that they are investigating the incident, which has seen Everton charged by UEFA for ‘aggression by supporters against players’.

“Detectives will be reviewing footage and speaking to witnesses to establish what, if any, offences have been committed”, said a force spokesperson.

Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4065 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
