Two men shot whilst in car in Netherton

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an incident in which two males were injured in Netherton yesterday morning.

Officers were called to Dartmouth Drive at 10.15am following reports that shots had been fired at a dark coloured vehicle. The vehicle is then believed to have driven off away from the direction of Gorsey Lane.

Two males – one aged in his 40s and one aged in his 50s – who are believed to be the occupants of the car – presented at hospital a short time later with injuries to the hand and leg consistent with a gun being used. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house and forensic enquiries are ongoing in the local area. High visibility patrols have also been stepped up in the area.

Detective Inspector Nick Price said: “I would appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of Dartmouth Drive around 10am today who may have seen any individuals or vehicles acting suspiciously to contact us as soon as possible.

“We are keeping an open mind as to why this has happened and the investigation is in its very early stages. Our priority now is to support the victims and establish who is responsible and to bring them to justice.

“I’m sure the vast majority of people in the community will be appalled to find that two men have been shot and we look to them to help us by providing information to make the streets safer.

“Criminals involved in gun crime have no regard for anyone else and I would urge the local community to come together to help us take a stand against the use of firearms and violence on our streets and report anything they saw or heard to us so we can take action.

“If anyone witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicious that could help us investigate this incident then please contact our gun crime hotline on 0800 230 0600 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
