A controversial plan to reduce The Strand to four lanes may be handed a £45 million boost this week.
The scheme, named Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Scheme (LCCC) which plans to change the way people move around the city was revealed last year.
The most controversial part of the scheme has been to alter the strand to become 4 lanes of tree lined highway in order to reduce “traffic dominance”.
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will meet on Friday to agree £38.4M funding for the scheme. If it is agreed then Liverpool City Council will put another £6.4M in to the scheme that will bring the funding for the plans for £44.7M.
Almost half of that money will be ploughed in to reducing the number of lanes on The Strand.
Announcing the LCCC last year, the council said it wanted to “transform how people move around Liverpool city centre – by foot, bike, car, coach and bus”.
