Koeman feeling ‘calm’ under Everton pressure

Ronald Koeman admits he feels ‘quite calm’ despite Everton’s abject recent form.

The Blues have failed to win four of their previous five Premier League games and picked up just one point from their opening two Europa League group games.

It has left Koeman under pressure from the stands at Goodison Park following a summer where Everton spent over £140 million in the summer transfer window.

But the Dutchman insists that he remains the right man for the job and that he has not changed since being appointed Roberto Martinez’s successor in 2016.

“We know we are playing below our level and the results need to be better,” he wrote in De Telegraaf.

“The moment I made the move from Southampton to a club with such ambitions, I knew I could be in a difficult situation if the results did not match the investment.

“I’m quite calm about it. I am doing everything with the rest of the staff and we are working even harder to get those results fast.

“I’m exactly the same coach as in the past few years when it went well.”

Koeman also rallied to the defence of Davy Klaassen with the £23.6m arrival’s Everton career failing to truly ignite after two months at the club.

He added: “Outsiders really underestimate the situation.

“You only see and understand when you work or have worked as a coach or player in this competition.

“In addition, Davy is also in the situation that the team is not running well and that we have more players who need some time.”
