Jurgen Klopp claims that Liverpool lacked fortune in their draw at Spartak Moscow.
In a one-sided game in the Russian capital, the Reds had found themselves a goal down courtesy of Fernando’s freekick before Philippe Coutinho’s leveller.
The visitors enjoyed 64% of possession and took a total of 16 shots, with Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge all enjoying clear chances.
But rather than being angry with his team’s profligacy, Klopp claimed the result was a simple case of fortune being against Liverpool.
“Obviously we didn’t score. Fortune was not with us in the moment,” he told BT Sport.
“For example the situation around the free-kick, it was not even a foul, Philippe (Coutinho) clears the ball.
“We created, created, created, yes we could have created even more but the chances we had were obviously big enough to score two, three or four times.
“Where is the real point for criticism? We tried and we have to carry on. The effort was great, it was a really intense game from our side.
“We created the chances and yes we have to be more clinical, that’s 100% sure. The only way to change it is to do it again and again.
“It’s a really crazy game, having that many chances and only scoring one time feels kind of average but it is how it is.”
