Ronald Koeman says he is pleased by what he saw from his Everton team despite a 4-0 loss to Manchester United.
The Blues fell to their fourth defeat in four games at Old Trafford, courtesy of another late flourish from Jose Mourinho’s side.
They were unfortunate to lose by four goals, though, with a spirited second-half performance worth more at least a point.
Despite the result, the overall display was far brighter than in recent defeats to Atalanta and Tottenham and Koeman was certainly pleased by what he saw.
“Sometimes in football, you get what you deserve, today we deserved more than we got,” he told Sky Sports.
“We made a big mistake at 1-0, by Ashley Williams and after that, it was over. What I saw today from the team made me happy, happier than Thursday.
“We grew into the game and our confidence and not many teams will get the big chances that we got today. Maybe they created more than us but after half time we got two, two on ones against De Gea and did everything to score a goal.
“We didn’t score a goal and then a personal mistake and it’s 2-0. It’s not ambition its confidence. It’s confidence of the players and the team.
“I try to shout at them but it’s in their head after a tough period. It’s really difficult, as a manager you try to help and support them but when the whistle starts, it’s all about you and your teammates.
“We started too afraid. It’s difficult to say because it’s 4-0 but we did not deserve this result.”
