Liverpool have pledged to cover the visa costs of fans travelling to their Champions League game with Spartak Moscow.
Supporters will have to fork out £118.80 to gain entry to the Russian capital when Jurgen Klopp’s side play their Group E encounter later this month.
Over 2,000 tickets have been allocated to the Reds for the game at the Otkrytie Arena, meaning the club is set to reimburse up to £250,000 on visa fees.
Manchester United have agreed to a similar gesture when they take on Spartak’s local rivals CSKA Moscow the day after Liverpool’s September 26 visit.
“We are aware that in order for fans to receive their passports back from the Application Centre, it is necessary to return your receipt,” read a club statement.
“As we will require the receipt from the purchase of visas in order for refunds to be issued, we would urge supporters to make a copy of their receipt before exchanging it for their passport.
“It is incumbent on all supporters travelling to Moscow to arrange their own visas and application centres are available in Manchester, London and Edinburgh.
“There will be no portable visa service available at Anfield for this game as that option was deemed unworkable in the available timeframe.”
The last time Liverpool fans made the trip to Russia was in November 2015 when their side faced Rubin Kazan in the Europa League group stages.
