Naby Keita will join Liverpool next summer after they agreed a deal with RB Leipzig.
Keita remained on Jurgen Klopp’s radar despite RB Leipzig previously rebuffing a £66 million offer the Guinea international earlier this summer.
The midfielder travelled to England on Monday to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move to Anfield, which will take effect on July 1, 2018.
He is expected to finalise the switch at the club’s Melwood trainng ground.
Liverpool have agreed to meet Keita’s £48m release clause, which takes effect in 12 months’ time, and pay an additional fee to guarantee the deal.
Barcelona were linked with a move for the 24-year-old but the Reds have moved swiftly to ensure that he will become their player in the long run.
Leipzig refused to sanction a deal to sell Keita in the current transfer window as they prepare to embark on their maiden Champions League campaign.
Keita contributed a combined 16 goals in 32 outings in the Bundesliga side’s maiden season in the top flight as they finished runners-up to Bayern Munich.
