Juventus have conceded defeat in their bid to sign Emre Can from Liverpool.
Can is still yet to agree a contract extension with the Reds after the midfielder entered the final 12 month of his current deal earlier this summer.
Anfield officials remain confident a resolution can be reached amid fears the Germany international could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season
Juve had hoped to capitalise on the uncertainty over Can’s future with various reports in Italy claiming offers in excess of £20 million were set to be tabled.
But the Serie A champions’ chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has admitted Liverpool are unwilling to sell the 23-year-old in the current transfer window.
“Liverpool are holding on tight to Emre Can,” he told Premium Sport.
“His contract expires in June, we’ll be able to negotiate with him from January. We won’t hide the fact we like him.
“But currently he is a Liverpool player, so we can only admire him from afar.”
Can scored twice in Liverpool’s Champions League play-off win over Hoffenheim on Wednesday.
