Liverpool FC targeting Bundesliga midfielder

Liverpool are said to be considering a move for Hoffenheim’s Kerem Demirbay.

Demirbay faced the Reds as his side crashed out of the Champions League qualification stages in a 6-3 aggregate defeat at Anfield on Wednesday.

But reports in Germany have suggested the midfielder could be set to return to Anfield on a more permanent basis before the August 31 transfer deadline.

Bild claim that Jurgen Klopp has identified Demirbay as a potential incoming as Liverpool are no closer to breaking RB Leipzig’s resolve on Naby Keita.

The Germany international is no stranger to Klopp, having worked under his tutelage as part of Borussia Dortmund’s second string in the 2012/13 season.

Earlier this week, the Liverpool manager hailed Demirbay ahead of the encounter with the Bundesliga outfit, who lost 4-2 in their second leg tie.

He said: “I do like Kerem. He’s an excellent player.

“But he knows, like me, that football is not all about beauty.”

Demirbay signed a new four-year contract with Hoffenheim in February but is available through release clause which can be triggered in his deal.
